1. Educational comparison only

Catkind translates chronological cat age into approximate human reference ages. A displayed value is not a biological measurement or a prediction that a cat will develop, behave or live like a person of that age. A senior label is an age category, not a diagnosis or a measure of quality of life.

2. Sources and modeling choices

The reference ages are drawn from the FelineVMA age chart, with broad life-stage categories from AAHA/AAFP guidance linked on the calculator page. Linear interpolation between kitten anchors is this website’s implementation choice, not a set of measured monthly developmental values. Adult conversion adds four human-equivalent years per cat year after the second birthday. Reverse conversion inverts the same model; it does not estimate a person’s lifespan. Rounding and different assumptions can explain differences between websites.

3. Information the tool does not know

The calculator does not evaluate breed, weight, sex, nutrition, lifestyle, genetics, medical records or symptoms. It cannot identify an unknown birth date, interpret photographs or establish whether a cat needs treatment. An estimated input gives an estimated output. Date-based input uses completed calendar months, so a change of a few days will not always change the result.

4. Individual care and urgent concerns

Ask a qualified veterinarian about health, medication, diet, vaccination, symptoms or other individual care decisions. For urgent concerns, contact an appropriate veterinary service directly rather than waiting for website feedback. Do not start, stop or postpone care solely because of a converted age or a life-stage label.
