About Catkind

A small tool for a familiar question: how old is my cat in human years?

Our purpose

Catkind helps you compare a known chronological cat age with approximate human reference ages. The calculator, table and report use one shared calculation engine, so changing an input updates the same underlying model everywhere.

Where the numbers come from

The reference points come from the FelineVMA Feline Life Stages chart. AAHA life-stage definitions provide the broad age categories. We link both sources on the homepage. Intermediate kitten months are linearly interpolated, and reverse mode inverts this same relationship.

What we do not claim

This is an independent educational tool. Catkind is not a veterinary practice and has no claimed endorsement from AAHA, AAFP or FelineVMA. It cannot measure health, identify an unknown age from a photo, forecast lifespan or prescribe care.

How the project is maintained

We check the calculation against reference ages such as 1 month → 1 human year, 1 year → 15, 2 years → 24 and 5 years → 36, and test supported whole-month ages in both conversion directions. The method review date refers to a real review of the linked references, not veterinary approval. If you find a discrepancy, record the input, direction, output and source you expected.
